Drain Opener

Most of my recipes are for people, this one is for a different set of pipes. I have found it works better than commercial drain openers. I received this recipe about ten years ago in a newsletter with one of my utility bills. I don't know who the author is to give a much deserved credit to.

1 cup Baking Soda
1 cup Vinegar
1 cup Table Salt
2 quarts Boiling Water

Combine the first three ingredients and pour into drain. Then pour in the boiling water.

  1. Great idea to post this! I have been GUILTILY using Drano b/c our tub backs up every few months. I hate the thought of using such harsh chemicals - I clean with all "green" stuff, so why do I use Drano? I hate when the tub backs up! This sounds like a great solution! THANK YOU!

  2. You're very welcome. I usually don't think of these things on my own, it usually takes something else to get me to take note. The main reason I really noticed this recipe years ago, was because I had a cat the preferred to drink out of the bathtub drain.
